Member Spotlight

Meet Hannah Dean from the Villages Media Group and MFM Young Professional Committee Member

  • What is your current position and... main job responsibilities?
Senior Production Accountant with the Villages Media Group. I work closely with the Director of Operations to monitor job costing, newsprint pricing, and other aspects of production to assist him in making high-level decisions regarding the efficiency and productivity of our operation.

  • How long have you worked in media?
I have worked in media for 4 years.

  • How did you get involved with MFM and what do you benefit the most from by being a member?
Our Director of Finance decided it would be beneficial for me to attend the conference this year and signed me up.  I think the greatest benefit is the resources of shared information and the networking.

  • How do you think young professional members can help grow MFM?
I think it is great when organizations give their young professionals a voice in the organization.  It allows for a different perspective to be brought to the table.  This provides an environment that is able to adapt and change with the times.

  • Where do you get the majority of your news from? What platform and source?
I read our newspaper the Daily Sun every day. Our editorial department does a great job of localized coverage that relates to events that may be happening nationally.  One of the great things about our community is no matter what kind of story they choose, there is someone that lives here that can add valuable input. This is very unique and adds a different perspective to the storytelling. I also receive notifications from several national news outlets on my cell phone.

  • How do you discover new programming content and what shows are on your must-watch list?
Word of mouth, commercials or Hulu/Netflix recommendations.  I enjoy watching documentaries and Sci-Fi.  I am a huge Star Wars fan! I also love watching college football and softball.

  • What are you most looking forward to in the industry in the next 1-2 years?
Watching it adapt and change to meet the needs of the population.

  • What do you find most interesting about working in media?
The impact that it has on people lives.  Media has the potential to shape a person’s perceptive, and it is something we must ever be mindful of.

  • How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
Right now I am 1 section (Tax) away from getting my CPA license, so most free time is spent studying.  I ran 2 marathons earlier this year and promptly "retired" from running.  I do love obstacle course races (mud & slight jogging)!  I completed a Tough Mudder last year and a few other obstacle races this year.
