Member Spotlight

Meet Carrie Heffernan! Carrie works for Bonneville International, based in Seattle, WA
She is a Young Professional member of MFM.

What are your current position and main job responsibilities?
I’m the Assistant Controller for Bonneville International in Seattle. My main job responsibilities include month-end close, calculating commissions, various sales, and expense analyses, working closely with the sales and traffic departments to improve operations, and assisting the controller with forecasting and budgeting.

• How long have you worked in media?
I worked at Bonneville for a couple years, then left the industry for a couple years and have happily been back for three years now.

• How did you get involved with MFM and what do you benefit the most from by being a member?
I attended my first MFM conference in Denver in 2016 and joined the YP Committee then. I’ve valued the connections I’ve made with people at the conference or on our monthly calls. I’ve reached out to various people I’ve met through MFM as resources on different projects, as well as maintained friendships from the conferences.

• How do you think young professional members can help grow MFM?
I think young professionals can help grow MFM with new ideas for involvement and fresh perspectives. Since we are the future, it is important we stay active and involved with the organization.

• Where do you get the majority of your news from? What platform and source?
My main sources of news are Twitter or Facebook, our website, our news station 97.3 KIRO FM, and the Top Stories on my iPhone

• How do you discover new programming content and what shows are on your must-watch list?
I usually discover new content by word of mouth or various social media outlets. Some of my favorite shows right now are Game of Thrones, Homeland, Stranger Things, Ozark, The Handmaids Tale, The Bold Type, and various documentaries and docu-series.

• What are you most looking forward to in the industry in the next 1-2 years?
Continuing to watch it evolve. A lot has already happened with the growth of various digital products and early stages of AI. It will be fun to be part of the continued transformation with how content is consumed and how advertising evolves with it.

•What do you find most interesting about working in media?
Similar to the previous question, it is interesting to watch and be part of the constant change and growth that comes along with media; each day is different. It’s also fun to be on the “inside,” since we have news and sports stations, sometimes we find things out before the public.

•How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
Outside of work I like to spend time with my husband, go to CrossFit, travel, go wine tasting, cook, and I love watching football - Go Pack Go!
